Match Play

Lancers Sweep Steel Valley in Section Opener, March 26

The Lancers opened Section 2 AA with a sweep of Steel Valley, 25 - 9, 25 - 4, 25 - 9.

Deer Lakes Takes Fox Chapel 3-2

In a non-section match the Lancers took Fox Chapel, 23-25, 25-14, 25-23, 23-25, 15-11
Darin Van Horn - 23 Kills, Jeremy Gaston- 54 assists.

 Deer Lakes Sweeps Bobcats

In a section 2 match Deer Lakes swept Elderton 3 - 0, 25-14, 25-11, 25-11.
Darin Van Horn 15 Kills, Kevin Stapleton 6 kills, Guss Brown 6 kills, Jeremy Gaston- 27 assists.

Lancers beat Derry 3 -0

Deer Lakes increased its record to 3 - 0 with a sweep of Derry at Derry. The Lancers won 25-16, 25-19 and 26-24.
Darin Van Horn 11 Kills, ZaK Roberts 9 kills, Guss Brown 6 kills, Kevin Stapleton 5 kills, Mike Carrigan 4 kills in game 3. Jeremy Gaston had 31 assists.

Deer Lakes Sweeps 4th Straight Section Opponent

The Lancers improved there Section 2 record to 4 - 0 with a 3-0 sweep of Summit Academy.  25-11, 25-7, 25-6.
Zak Roberts 12 Kills, Darin Van Horn 8 Kills, Guss Brown 4 kills, Jeremy Gaston- 24 assists, Zak Roberts 9 service aces.

Lancers Perfect 6 - 0 at Midpoint.

Deer lakes topped Hopewell, 3-0, 25-13, 25-16, 25-11.
Zak Roberts 15 Kills in 16 attempts, Darin Van Horn 9 Kills, Guss Brown 6 kills, Jeremy Gaston- 31 assists.

Steel Valley Forfeits

Steel Valley only had 5 player so it goes in the books as a forfeit. Charlie Tindall got his first varsity start as the match was played with John Kunc playing for  Steel Valley.

Deer Lakes Continues Streak With Sweep of Penn Trafford

In a match that was one of the more competitive the Lancers have seen in a while Deer Lakes swept Penn Trafford

Lancers Suffer First Lose in Match Play
Falling to Upper St Clair 2-3

 Deer Lakes suffered it first match loss since 2007 - falling to USC. The Lancers came out slow losing game 1, 13 -25. They started to get things going in game 2 after falling behind early but lost 23 -25. They rebounded in games 3 and 4 winning 25-23 and 25-21. Game five was a close battle but the Lancers had the lead at 13 - 11. USC scored the final 4 points and took the match.

Tournament Play

Norwin Tournament - Saturday March 21, 2009

Lancers start "Road trip 09" with 2nd place finish in Norwin Tournament, falling to Butler in finals, 22 - 25.

North Hills Tournament - Saturday March 28, 2009

Lancers finished second in pool play behind Butler then fall 23 - 25 in semi-finals.

For the second straight week Deer Lakes eliminates the tournament host but falls in the next playoff round. Deer Lakes went 4 - 2 in pool play to finish 2nd to Butler. The lancers took North Hills 25 - 12 in the quarter finals then lost to Seneca Valley 23 - 25 in the swmi-finals. Seneca Valley beat Butler in the finals

Fox Chapel Tournament - Saturday April 4, 2009

Lancers wins pool finishes as #2 seed behind Plum then falls in semi-finals.

For the third tournament in a row Deer Lakes lost in the playoffs to the eventual tournament winner. They came out strong in pool play taking 2 games each from Keystone Oaks and Seagertown and split with Plum. In the seeding round they beat Erie McDowell then fall to Plum to take the overall second seed into the playoffs. In the quarterfinals they handled Montour. In the semi-finals they came out and won the first game 25-21 then dropped the next two to bow out of the tournament. Fox Chapel went on to beat Plum 2-1 in the finals.

Hempfield Tournament - Saturday April 18, 2009

Deer Lakes Brings Home the Title.

In a rematch of last year's final the Lancers beat Norwin to take first place. Last year the Knights defeated the Lancers. Deer Lakes went 4 - 0 in pool play. Their only set back of the day came at the hands of Hempfield in the seeding round. After that they never looked back, winning the next two reseeding games against Penn Trafford and Altoona. In the playoffs they got wins over OLSH and Altoona before meeting Norwin in the Finals.

Plum - Saturday April 14, 2009

Lancers lose in semi's to Penn Hills.

 Deer Lakes went 6 - 2 in pool play losing only to North Allegheny. They were the number 4 seed going into the playoffs. They beat Bethal Park 25 - 17 in the quarter finals bfroe falling to Penn Hills, 17 - 25 in the semi's. Penn Hill went on to win the tournament beating NA 27 - 25.
